The "Mental Health Research Center of Shenzhen University" stands as one of the key research bases for humanities and social sciences in Shenzhen. Established in 2021, the center is headed by Professor Jiao Can. Currently, the research team consists of 13 members, among whom 9 hold senior professional titles and all 13 possess doctoral degrees. Oriented towards addressing significant psychological needs amidst the socioeconomic development of the nation and the Greater Bay Area comprising Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the center grounds its efforts in the realities of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, adhering to an interdisciplinary research approach. Adopting a "research, development, and application" model, it proactively serves the needs of both the country and Shenzhen. The center contributes uniquely to the establishment of a technology-supported social psychological service system and mechanisms for psychological crisis intervention, thereby advancing the modernization of the social governance system and governance capability in the new era.

With the academic objectives of exploring healthy lifestyles, promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of the populace, and fostering social harmony, the center relies primarily on a body of full-time and part-time researchers from both within and outside Shenzhen University. Anchored by dual pillars of basic research and applied guidance, it strategically aims to evolve into a research hub wielding substantial academic and societal influence. Key research projects undertaken by the center primarily encompass investigations into the relationship between lifestyle factors (such as exercise, caloric restriction, mindfulness, etc.) and mental health, as well as studies on human lifespan development and the promotion of mental health.
