Degree Program Introduction

This discipline is a major focus area at Shenzhen University, covering a total area of 13,000 square meters. Established in 2015, our institution has successfully recruited elite national talents and nurtured a cadre of promising young educators, fostering a vibrant and enduring academic workforce. We've established a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, including a large-scale Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) platform, complemented by over ten specialized laboratories dedicated to Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), Electroencephalogram (EEG), Eye Tracking, and more, thereby facilitating exceptional research and teaching environments. Our legacy includes grooming a myriad of high-caliber graduates across bachelor's, master's, and doctoral tiers, with the added distinction of collaborative PhD programs with prestigious international universities. Today, we stand proud as a distinguished discipline, nationally ranked at the pinnacle and earning international acclaim from our peers.

Academic Concentrations and Special Curriculum

The four areas of study - developmental & educational psychology, cognitive neuroscience, emotional & health psychology, and psychological measurement & application - have all developed rapidly. In particular, our departments of Cognitive Neuroscience and Emotional & Health Psychology have witnessed substantial growth, propelling us to the forefront of academic excellence in these fields. For example, the cognitive neuroscience group has employed an array of multimodal techniques to uncover the nuanced variations in neural coding across diverse languages, attaining globally recognized research outcomes. The emotional & health psychology group has extensively investigated the underlying neural mechanisms of conditions such as schizophrenia, depression, autism, and age-related neurological disorders via collaborative international endeavors, resulting in the dissemination of several influential studies in elite international publications.

In the past five years, the research program has received 130 million scientific research funds, including 38 National Natural Science Foundation projects (including 1 key project and 1 international cooperation and exchange key project), 10 National Social Science Foundation projects, and the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences projects (including 1 major sub-project of National Social Science Foundation). Published 436 international journal papers and 136 domestic journal papers, including nearly 50 high-level (Chinese Academy of Sciences Zone 1 or SSCI-1) papers, published in Science Advances Cerebra Cortex, Journal of Neuroscience, Neuroimage, and other journals.

Talent Cultivation Objectives

Our aim is to develop talented individuals with a strong theoretical foundation, capable of both practical application and further academic exploration, as well as to nurture professionals oriented towards meeting national demands and solving real-world challenges.

Domestic and International Impact

This research program has seen unparalleled growth in China in recent years, achieving 9th position nationally in the 2019 Soft Science Rankings for Top Disciplines. By 2020, it was recognized among only eight mainland Chinese institutions in the prestigious Times Higher Education Discipline Rankings, epitomizing the rapid progress in psychology known as "Shenzhen Speed."

The discipline boasts affiliations with several esteemed academic bodies, such as the Emotional and Health Psychology Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society, the EEG-Related Technologies Committee, the Psychology Education Committee, the Social Cognitive Science Branch of the Chinese Cognitive Science Society, and the Guangdong Cognitive Science Society, to name a few. These affiliations host seminars and forums on topics like emotional and health psychology, brain imaging, and electroencephalography, which have garnered considerable recognition within China.

Moreover, a number of professors here occupy influential roles within key domestic and international academic organizations, reinforcing the program's stature in the global academic landscape.
