The Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Emotion and Social Sciences was officially established in August 2016, following approval by the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission. The laboratory primarily employs a multitude of techniques including EEG/ERP, MRI, TMS, tDCS, multiparameter physiological recorders, eye-tracking, and behavioral observation, to investigate the neural mechanisms of emotion and the neurobiological underpinnings of emotional disorders and related cognitive impairments from diverse disciplinary perspectives, including cognitive psychology, social psychology, neuropsychophysiology, and clinical psychiatry. Grounded in these research findings, the laboratory also develops assessment and intervention strategies for emotional disorders.

The overarching objective of the laboratory is to establish a research platform with domestically advanced capabilities in cognitive neuroscience, attract and nurture high-caliber talent, and position itself as a representative research hub in Shenzhen and across China for studying the brain mechanisms of emotion and emotion-related psychiatric and neurological disorders. Furthermore, it aims to become a center for domestic and international academic exchange in this field.
