On August 27–28, 2026, the final round of the “5th Guangdong Provincial Psychological Counseling Skills Competition for Undergraduate Psychology Students” was successfully held at the University Town Campus of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The competition was jointly organized by the Guangdong Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for Psychology Majors at Undergraduate Institutions, the Guangdong Provincial Guidance Center for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools, and the Guangdong Psychological Society, and hosted by the School of Public Health and Management at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. As one of the most influential skills competitions for psychology majors in Guangdong Province, the event provided an important platform for students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills, while comprehensively assessing and enhancing their psychological counseling competencies.

The competition attracted outstanding students from psychology programs at undergraduate institutions across the province. The final round consisted of three key components: “on-site simulated counseling, presentation of counseling approaches, and Q&A with judges ”. Demonstrating solid professional knowledge, clear counseling strategies, and genuine empathy, the contestants showcased the professional competence and humanistic care expected of future psychological counselors. Based on the contestants’ final scores, the competition awarded First Prize (10%), Second Prize (15%), Third Prize (25%), and Honorable Mention . In addition, three individual awards were presented: “Most Approachable Counselor, Most Empathetic Counselor, and Most Influential Counselor”.
After two days of intense competition, our students achieved outstanding results:

These outstanding achievements are the result not only of the participating students’ diligent study, rigorous practice, and dedicated pursuit of professional knowledge, but also of the hard work and commitment of the faculty advisory team. During the preparation period, Professors Guo Tianyou, Tang Suqin, Jiang Donghong, Wu Dan, and Zhu Chen provided meticulous guidance in areas including counseling techniques, case analysis, and on-the-spot responses. Through repeated mock exercises and careful refinement of individual cases, the advisors helped the contestants address their areas for improvement, strengthen their psychological resilience, and lay a solid foundation for their outstanding performance in the competition.
