Psychological Counseling Skills Competition – Internal Selection
The third Guangdong Province Undergraduate Psychology Students' Psychological Counseling Skills Competition is scheduled to take place from August 25 to 26, 2024, hosted by Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai Campus. To identify and select outstanding undergraduate psychology students to represent our college in this competition, an internal selection competition for psychological counseling skills was conducted on July 13, 2024.
On-site Evaluation
This selection competition had 24 students registered, coming from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts of Psychology, Psychology (Excellence Class), and Psychology (Normal Class) majors. The selection consisted of three stages: simulated counseling on-site, explanation of counseling ideas & approaches, and a Q&A session with the judges.
During the simulated counseling stage, contestants engaged with clients using case scenarios assigned by random lot. Faced with the clients' questions, the contestants calmly analyzed the issues, established a good counseling relationship with the clients, and worked collaboratively to explore counseling strategies aimed at help resolving the clients’ problems.
During the judges' Q&A stage, the judges frequently asked about the counseling approaches and techniques the contestants applied, as well as their conceptualizations and overall approaches to the cases.
